The NVS TACAIR beacon is a battery powered IR beacon that emits a high intensity IR signature visible from very long distances, especially from aircraft that are equipped with image intensified night vision. The beacon’s eighteen infrared diodes flash a beam that maximizes the ground-to-air signal, while minimizing the ground-to-ground signal. A low-intensity visible green diode confirms operation of the beacon in daylight or for persons without NVGs. The TacAIR beacon has a manual switch to activate and deactivate at night or in darkness. The built-in light sensor deactivates the unit to save power during daylight conditions. The body of the TACAIR beacon is weatherproof and provides features that enable secure tie down of the light for use in high winds or rotor wash.
